Ziplining in Sayulita

For those guests who are looking for a little adreniline rush while vacationing here in Punta de Mita, you need look no further than the Zipline – Canopy Tour offered by Rancho Mi Chaparrita, located 20 mins away from Hotel La Quinta del Sol, just outside of the quaint surfing/fishing village of Sayulita.

Ziplining in Sayulita has rapidly gained popularity over the past 10 years or so, popping up over forests, canyons, jungles, vineyards and even zoos. For those of you who are unfamiliar with zip lines, they are elevated cable rides where the rider is harnessed onto their own personal pulley and travel downcable powered only by the force of gravity.

Mi Chaparrita has 13 lines and 3 suspension bridges that span over 2 km and 125 m up a mountainside with stunning views of the surrounding hills, Pacific Ocean and Sayulita.  The tour starts out with getting geared up at base camp with your helmet and harness.  The staff then gives you a brief but thorough safety presentation and although there is lots of joking and light heartedness, you never get the impression that they are anything less than professional.  Once the Q&A is over, it’s a short hike up to the first line and the fun begins.

Throughout the whole tour, the staff is supportive, encouraging and, most importantly, a ton of fun!  They try to keep the tour moving at a good pace and you race along ziplines with names like Angel and BoneCrusher.   Although there is a bit of light hiking involved, it’s nothing too strenuous so all fitness and age levels should be able to enjoy…the youngest adventurer in our group was 7; the oldest in his 70’s.  Throughout the whole tour there is a “papparazzi-style” photographer recording it all and an opportunity to buy photos at the end — it’s actually a nice treat to just be able to enjoy the experience and not have to worry about “capturing the moment”…they take care of that for you.

Once you’ve finished the tour, beers or cold water are offered all around and the group reminisces about their favourite part.  After this, Mi Chaparrita will drop you off back in Sayulita, so for our guests we always recommend combining the zipline an afternoon exploring and enjoying this great little town.  There are wonderful places to lunch, a great beach, fun surf and lots of fabulous boutiques for shopping.  Please stay tuned for our next post on all the great things to do in Sayulita.

Mi Chaparrita has 4 tours a day (10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm) and costs $75 USD for adults and $55 USD for kids under 12.  They also offer a full moon tour.
